Shell Shocked: Inside totalsurf's Mario Kart Tournament

3rd July 2025 by Chris Brown

totalsurf’s boardroom transformed into a high-octane racing arena when our team battled it out on the new Mario Kart World.

Red shells, giant mushrooms, and banana peels flew across the room’s giant screen as totalsurf’s SEO wizards enjoyed the hit Switch 2 game for our monthly gaming tournament. Mario Kart World has become the must-have title for Nintendo’s latest console, with physical sales exceeding 1 million copies in Japan alone. As the flagship launch title for the Switch 2, the game features races supporting up to 24 drivers, making the competition tighter than ever before.

Rainbow Road Rivalry as Beth and Nick Battle for Glory

In the new game, players can zip around courses in a vast, interconnected world – racing across grassy plains, bustling cities, wide-open waters, towering volcanoes, and everything in between.

After several rounds of intense four-player competition, the field of totalsurfers was narrowed down to the final two competitors: our two copywriters, Nick Barber and Beth Ellison. These top racers went head-to-head in a final showdown on the series’ most legendary track – Rainbow Road.

The race was neck-and-neck from start to finish, with the lead changing multiple times. In a thrilling finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats, Nick managed to squeeze out a victory right at the finish line. The tournament perfectly captured what makes Mario Kart World so compelling – it’s a social experience that brings people together in a wild and wacky arena of friendly competition.
