DYNAMIC MEDIA SOLUTIONS WEB DESIGN

Dynamic Media Solutions (DMS) are a media company that provides AV (audio-visual) equipment for corporate events and exhibitions. They pride themselves on ensuring their products are faultless and ensuring everything they provide is of high quality, including their service.

They needed a website to reflect these qualities as well as run fluidly with motion graphics, which had been specced by the graphic designer.

DMS approached us with a very unusual problem. Their website had been designed by a creative in-house designer, who had the intention of having the website built by a trusted and reputable freelancer.

The problem was that said freelancer has been dealt a terrible emotional blow, where a serious family illness had unexpectedly taken up all of his time, therefore the full extent of the work could not be completed as initially promised.

totalsurf were presented with a website build that was 30% completed, and in a language that we had no experience of coding in (sass). Rather than turn the opportunity away, we delved deep into our available resources and determined that our team was capable of completing the work that had been entrusted to the previous website builder.

Web development involves regularly learning new code bases and by extension, new ways of working with this code. We agreed to complete the work for DMS, as we felt this was within our scope and we didn’t want to let this client down, especially considering they had already invested heavily in this website. We certainly didn’t want to leave them with a site that had only been partially-built.

Working with a code written by somebody else is always a challenge in itself. It’s as if you are given a book to write, with the first chapter already written, and your job is to finish it off. You aren’t aware of what processes and thoughts had gone into the first chapter, and this is why it proves challenging to make a bestseller. Needless to say, the challenge wasn’t too steep for our in-house development team, who were able to get to grips with the code and complete the project exactly to specifications.

Needless to say, we also optimised the website for mobile devices too.
