WORK

Job title: Digital Marketing Junior Executive

Education:

  • BSc Management w/ Digital Innovation (Royal Holloway, University of London)
  • MSc Digital Marketing (Royal Holloway)

History: Ken was introduced to the marketing world during the final year of his undergraduate course, realising business and brands were everywhere. Initially intimidating, he also found it fascinating that “marketing was so subtly ingrained in our everyday lives it got me more interested in the necessity of business.”

It wasn’t until his Master’s that Ken discovered the wonderful world of SEO. “One guest speaker gave an account of her career in the SEO industry that piqued my interest, and that has led me to be here at totalsurf,” he explains.

In terms of experience, Ken worked as a research assistant for a mental health app, where he oversaw UX and analysed and proposed improvements that could better help users. He enjoyed handling data, which contributed to his desire to explore SEO as it’s very data intensive. Ken especially likes the investigative process of observing existing data and using that to make improvements. He’s enjoying working at totalsurf, and is eager to sink his teeth into even more expansive work.

PERSONAL

Volleyball: One of Ken’s ongoing interests. He got into the sport only last year but has already become obsessed. Why? “It got me to enjoy playing sports again and partly because of my avid love for the Japanese manga Haikyuu, which I honestly think is my all-time favourite work of art. The strategy of the games, the intensity of the fast pace plays and the insane power that the volleyballs are hit and received at are so compelling to me.”

Games: They’ve been prevalent throughout his life. “I’ve just always been playing them. One of my earliest gaming memories was Pokemon Ruby on the Gameboy Advance, but I fondly remember spending hours on the PS2 on my early Sunday mornings. Now, I’m drowning in the backlog of games I’ve left in my Steam library, wondering which game to play and ultimately resorting to playing Persona 4 for the billionth time!”
