The bi-annual search marketing conference BrightonSEO returned for its September installation, and it definitely did not disappoint! Offering compelling insights into the digital marketing world, featuring talks from a variety of speakers and in-depth training courses, BrightonSEO once again proved why it is a trade show for anyone in the website design and SEO terrain. In other words, us!
Getting the chance to attend BrightonSEO was a superb opportunity for myself, someone who has recently been brought onto the totalsurf team as an SEO Content Writer. Having worked extensively as a copywriter and content writer, now I’m delving further into technical SEO writing. These days, I primarily write keyword-focussed content for our clients and in between articles, I can usually be found taking copious amounts of notes on keyword research, content strategy and technical optimisation.
Needless to say, BrightonSEO was an incredible opportunity to expand my SEO knowledge even further. Finding out as much as possible from other industry experts and established content marketers (all with varying backgrounds and industries) was only going to make the experience more beneficial.
Unfortunately, logistical issues meant that I – and hundreds of others – could not get into the Brighton Centre until about 11:00am, despite having queued for well over an hour. Not the best start to the day but once in, I was able to find what I was looking for in good time…right after grabbing a coffee!
Whether you’re an SEO expert or a novice, you can walk out of BrightonSEO having felt something enter your brain in some way. In this case, I felt I came away with a discernible amount of useful information and how totalsurf can apply said knowledge.
On the whole, the talks were informative, inspiring and motivational. Some more so than others, but for the most part, the speakers did a tremendous job in generating laughs and positive responses from their crowds. The variety of talks on display meant it was impossible to check out every speaker, talk and workshop, but in many ways that’s a good thing.
When you feel you need a break, there is plenty to enjoy. Did we mention they have video game consoles in one of the balcony bars? Who doesn’t enjoy a mid-afternoon game of Tekken 3?
The vibe is superb. Once you set foot in the Brighton Centre, no matter how long the queue takes, the air is full of excitement and enthusiasm. Most trade shows fall flat at some point throughout the day but us SEO-ers are natural networkers, so we feel more at home and we feed off the buzz.
It’s an added bonus that they serve beer from the early afternoon!
What a great location. Being in the heart of one of the most culturally diverse cities in the UK, right along the seafront, means that you’re already poised to smile at some point. It does help if the weather is great, and luckily, we were treated to warm sunshine, which boosts that usual Friday feeling.
Also, in Brighton there are loads of awesome restaurants nearby which do some amazing food. I’d like to give a personal shout out to Beelzebab (AKA the Hope & Ruin pub)!
We’d definitely like to pay another visit to this SEO trade show next year, that’s for sure.
